You should have never trusted Hollywood

The official Daria DVDs are out! Are you guys and gals excited? Have you ordered or planning on ordering your copy? Any self respecting Daria fan should! Get'em here - www.dariaondvd.com or at Amazon or wherever you can buy legit DVDs.

I got my copy two weeks ago through that t-shirt special... although I wasn't as excited as I thought I would be, years ago. In fact, the disks sat on my desk, unwrapped for about a week, until I needed to get some high quality reference screenshots.

The last time I remember being excited about Daria was in December, last year, when I was invited to MTV headquarters at Times Square in regards to their Daria DVD effort. I showed them my fan work and discussed ideas. They loved what they saw. The meeting wasn't very long but the amount of material and ideas tossed around was exhaustive. From using my dPod spoof animation, doing 3D fly-throughs of Daria's house for the DVD menu system, to doing special promotional campaigns at DeviantArt, all the way to some pretty cutting edge online and guerrilla marketing strategies that I do for other brands to get fans really pumped and involved through low budget / high yield campaigns. I offered any of my skills to their effort.

Towards the end, I asked them if this Daria DVD effort meant they were planning on fully capitalizing on the Daria IP in a meaningful way or was it to just sell as many DVDs as they can, then forget about Daria again. It seems now like it's the latter. Apparently my vision was larger than their appetite. Little came of that meeting, unfortunately. *sigh*

Although I'm disappointed, any official DVDs are better than none. If you haven't gotten them yet, go buy them now. Anyway, I posted a new piece - s-c.deviantart.com/art/Definit… So I'm just going to finish up what daria projects I can then move on
